How payslip verification works
Fingerprints, QR codes and why a Payroll Africa payslip is hard to forge.
The fingerprint
When a payslip is generated, its key values are canonicalised into a stable string and hashed. The resulting fingerprint is stored with the payslip and printed on the document as a verification code and QR code.
Verifying
Scanning the QR code or entering the code at /verify checks the fingerprint against the stored record. If a single figure on the PDF has been altered, the fingerprint no longer matches and the document is reported as not verified.
What is not revealed
Unauthenticated visitors do not see payroll figures. Results are blurred and gated: the visitor is told only whether a document exists, and must authenticate as a member of a verified organisation to see details.
Revocation
An employer can revoke a payslip's verification link — for example after a document is superseded.
