Question 1

How is Payroll Africa different from Sage Payroll or QuickBooks?

Accepted Answer

We are cloud-native and multi-tenant from day one, priced from R90/month with every feature included, and we ship auto payroll runs with WhatsApp delivery — a feature neither Sage nor QuickBooks Payroll offers in South Africa.

Question 2

Is Payroll Africa compliant in my country?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Payroll Africa has country-specific tax and contribution rules for all 54 African countries, versioned per tax year (in South Africa that means SARS PAYE, UIF and SDL). Historic payslips never change when new tables are published.

Question 3

Can I migrate from Sage, SimplePay, PaySpace or Excel?

Accepted Answer

Yes — and it's free. Our team will import your employees, YTD balances and pay history. Most companies are fully live within 24 hours with zero data loss.

Question 4

Do you support weekly, fortnightly and monthly payroll?

Accepted Answer

All pay frequencies are supported on every plan, including multiple pay schedules within the same company.

Question 5

How does WhatsApp payslip delivery work?

Accepted Answer

Employees receive a secure, time-limited link to view or download their payslip PDF. Links expire after 30 days for privacy.

Question 6

Can payroll run automatically?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Enable Auto Payroll on any company and pick the day of the month — we'll create the run, calculate tax and contributions and send payslips automatically.

Question 7

How is my data protected?

Accepted Answer

Every company's data is isolated with database row-level security. Roles are stored separately from user profiles to prevent privilege escalation. All sensitive changes are audit-logged.

Question 8

Do you handle statutory returns and tax certificates?

Accepted Answer

Yes, per country (for example EMP201, EMP501 and IRP5 in South Africa). The Filings module tracks submissions per period with references, amounts and status. We're integrating direct e-filing next.

Question 9

What does it cost?

Accepted Answer

R90/month for up to 2 employees, scaling in fixed tiers up to R4,182 for 200 employees. Pick your team size on the pricing page to see the exact monthly price.

Question 10

Is there a contract?

Accepted Answer

No. Month-to-month, cancel anytime from Settings → Billing.

Question 11

Can employees see their own payslips?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every employee gets self-service access to payslip history, leave balances and profile change requests.

Question 12

What support do you offer?

Accepted Answer

Email and WhatsApp support Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00 (South African time), plus a real human on our end — not a chatbot.

Question 13

Do you support South Africa's ETI (Employment Tax Incentive)?

Accepted Answer

Yes, for South African companies. Qualifying young employees are automatically flagged and their ETI is calculated in the monthly EMP201.

Question 14

Can I run a bonus or 13th cheque?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Bonus runs use spread-forward tax calculations so employees aren't over-taxed in December.

Question 15

Do you integrate with accounting software?

Accepted Answer

Yes — Xero and QuickBooks Online integrations are live. Sage and Zoho are coming soon.
