How this UIF estimate works
UIF benefits are commonly described using an approximately 38%–58% income replacement sliding scale, with lower earners receiving a higher percentage. Actual UIF calculations use statutory rules, not the straight line used here.
The disclosed simplified model
We cap monthly remuneration at the ceiling in the current tax configuration. Daily remuneration is capped monthly remuneration × 12 ÷ 365. The illustrative replacement rate is 58% − 20% × (capped monthly remuneration ÷ ceiling). Daily benefit is their product.
Contribution duration affects illustrative credit days, not the replacement rate. We approximate one credit day per four days of contributions in the last four years, capped at 365 credit days. Previous claims and actual contribution records can reduce available credits. Rounded daily display values are not used to calculate the displayed total.
Who can claim?
Qualifying contributors who become unemployed, for example through retrenchment, dismissal or expiry of a contract, may claim subject to UIF conditions. Voluntary resignation generally does not qualify for unemployment benefits. Applicants must follow UIF application, work-seeker and reporting requirements. Other benefit categories, including maternity and illness, have different rules.
A salary estimate cannot confirm eligibility, an award amount or payment duration. Ask UIF to assess your actual contribution history and claim.
